Been a busy couple of months since Indonesia, but now it’s summer holidays -1 day. We’ll be sailing the coast of Portugal as from Sunday for two weeks. Hope I’ll be able to find a hotspot to update the blog. I’ll be taking along my spanking new Macbook which I’ve set up to test out for navigation. Bought a great little serial GPS which works great and have bought MacENC and a portfolio of Vector chart from ChartWorld. So we’ll see how that goes.

It’s been an exhausting few days, intensive training and bilaterals until I could take no more and had to crawl to my room to try and wrestle some sleep. But the afternoon heat, humidity, nightly tropical storms and jet-lag have joined forces to reduced my sleep to about 5 hours each night. It’s been good [...]

Due to go uot for dinner in 30 minutes, so I’k taking advantage of a fairly fast connection here at the Cemara Hotel. It feels positively luxurious after the GG House. Tried to find some handicrafts place that’s supposed to be next to the McDonalds 500 metres down the road but couldn’t find it, asked [...]

Arrived at the GG House just before lunch. A beautiful place situated beside a river half way up a hill about two hours drive South of Jakarta. It seems to be used a lot by the Civil Society for residential seminars etc. Room is modest with a temperamental shower. The surroundings are fantastic, orchids growing [...]

Had a registered letter from the British Embassy today, thought: “that’s quick I only sent it on Thursday!” Then, I saw it contained forms, birth certificates and a request for more papers!!! Damn… I might not have it in time for Indonesia! But when I looked closer it wasn’t my form, but for some lady [...]

Ok so I at last found the Air France office in town, they have moved twice since I was there last. I couldn’t book on-line, and thank god I couldn’t as without human advice I’d have messed it up. I return from Jakarta at 10 am Saturday morning if all goes well. Thing is we’d [...]

Ok so training dates are now agreed: I’ll be in Indonesia from 21-27 April 2007. The local organisers are The Tifa Foundation. They have a very pleasing website, not sure what kind of CMS they are using. It could benefit from some work on metadata so I hope I’ll have time to speak to their [...]

Ok planning for Indonesia is under way. Should be there one month from now. SO I decided I really must get this blog going. This is a bit of a surprise trip as Daniel, Huridocs’ Training Officer, famous for humanrightstools.org, can’t make it. I’ve heard Indonesia is fascinating, but looks like I won’t have much [...]
